I. Definition & Principle
Definition:
Highly Oriented Yarn (HOY) refers to a high-orientation as-spun yarn produced via ultra-high-speed spinning(spinning speed: 5,500–8,000 m/min). Its molecular chains achieve high orientation during spinning, while crystallization remains incomplete. HOY exhibits properties intermediate between Pre-Oriented Yarn (POY) and Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY).
Principle:
The melt stream undergoes intensified tensile stress, inducing rapid molecular chain orientation. However, crystallinity does not fully develop. HOY is suitable for direct weaving or as feedstock for subsequent drawing processes.
II. Procession
HOY is manufactured at ultra-high spinning speeds, attaining high molecular orientation. Key properties include:
Tenacity: higher than POY
Elongation: Moderate level
As an intermediate product between POY and FDY, it bridges the gap in orientation and crystallinity.
III. Technical Characteristics
High orientation with low crystallinity
Suboptimal thermal stability
Boiling water shrinkage: Moderate level (requiring controlled post-processing conditions)
Coarse-denier specifications may substitute FDY in select applications
IV. Applicable Products & End-Uses
Apparel usage, Low-end garment linings, compression sportswear, athletic socks
Technical Textiles usage, Industrial fabrics (e.g., packaging straps, geotextiles), automotive airbag base fabrics, UV-resistant interior trims
Raw Material usage, Feedstock for drawing processes
VI. Process Flow
(1) Melt Conveying
Polymer chips are melted via a screw extruder, then been conveyed to the spinning assembly by a precision metering pump. Make sure the melt pressure fluctuation shall be under control to ensure flow stability.
(2) Spinning Formation
The melt is extruded into filament streams through a spinneret, with a standard spinneret hole density and a hole diameter tolerance. At this stage, the quenching air temperature and air velocity need to be maintained moderately, to achieve rapid solidification.
(3) Drawing and Orientation
Filaments are drawn via a multi-stage godet roller assembly, and the draw ratio is precisely controlled.
(4) Cohesion & Winding
Use high-pressure air interlacing nozzles to improve filament bundle cohesion. To keep a rational dynamic balancing grade, commonly employ fork-type automatic high-speed models to as winder.
V. Key Design point
(1) Machinery Selection
Spinning Machine: Equipped with ultra-high-speed spinning machines from Oerlikon Barmag (Germany) or TMT (Japan).
Winding System: Fork-type automatic doffing winder, compatible with rabbit guide or fork guide roller (depend on blue print).
(2) Environmental Control
Utilize constant temperature and humidity workshop to implement Environmental Control.
VII. Complete Equipment Configuration
The HOY production system is largely analogous to POY equipment, with the following critical upgrades:
Higher Rotational-Speed Winding Head, operating at over 4,500 m/min velocity.
Reinforced Quenching System, acceleratting cooling rate to "freeze" the high-orientation structure
Apply Precision Tension Control Unit to maintains tension stability, prevent denier variation caused by orientation relaxation
